The Sonoma Valley Unified School District welcomed the California surgeon general in late January to learn about a new training to help educators, other school personnel and early child care providers respond to children’s trauma and stress. The visit of Dr. Diana Ramos, California’s second surgeon general and first Latinx in the role, on Wednesday, Jan. 31, followed the launch of the training, Safe Spaces: Foundations of Trauma-Informed Practice for Educational and Care Settings. Sonoma Valley Unified School District schools were chosen for Ramos’ visit after its wellness team participated at a student mental wellness conference earlier this year. She visited Sonoma Valley High School and Altimira Middle School.
